Salmonella food poisoning can be dangerous, as the bacterial contamination may cause a very serious illness.

Salmonella food poisoning can lead to very dangerous symptoms. According to Marler Clark, an attorney at law who represents thousands of clients in litigation against restaurants and food companies, only approximately three percent of salmonella cases are reported nationwide. The actual bacteria contamination is unquestionably much greater, as many cases can be mild and never diagnosed. It is estimated that 1.4 million cases occur each year and 600 of those cases lead to death.

As with any illness that causes diarrhea and vomiting, individuals can become dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to shock and can be deadly. It is especially dangerous to young children and infants and the elderly. If the bacteria contamination leads to salmonella food poisoning, there is a possibility that the infection may get into the bloodstream. This is why salmonella food poisoning can be so very dangerous.
